SOLD OUT...This hands-on workshop will be taught by Executive Director & Architect, April Magill and will introduce students to the concepts of earthen and plant-based building methods in a fun and meaningful way! Each student will learn the basics of several climate-smart building methods. Students will work through the rammed earth and hempcrete building methods on a small-scale project. Students will also dip into the basics of natural, mineral finishes such as lime plasters and paints. Each student will take home a Hempcrete and a Rammed Earth succulent holder as souvenirs. Concepts such as carbon/embodied energy, thermal dynamics, and building performance are taught through a tangible exercise of working with regional, natural resources.

Workshop includes:

  • an educational presentation on carbon & climate-smart building methods, including Rammed Earth + Hempcrete

  • make (1) rammed earth & (1) hempcrete succulent plant holder to take home (succulents included)

  • material samples & information

  • tour of the American College of Building Arts

  • snacks & beverages
