Same course, two options:  OCTOBER  5-6, 2024   OR   OCTOBER 12-13, 2024

Join us for this Charleston Hempcrete Building Workshop!!!  Students will be co-building the hempcrete (hemp-lime) walls of a permitted, 325sf studio building. This is our first pilot project through the Root Down Building Collective. This hempcrete studio will be equipped with performance monitoring devices and we will collect data on hempcrete performance in the southeastern environment.

Expect to get lots of hands-on experience with mixing the material properly and safely, and then installing it into a movable formwork in a stud-framed wall system. We will discuss different options for utilizing hempcrete as a part of a building’s wall assemblies. There will be a visual presentation in addition to the hands on mixing and building time.  Students will be exposed to other materials and methods, both hemp-based and more.
