Thank you for your interest in attending the Awendaw Community Building event!

This will be a fun, hands-on learning experience where you will have a ‘crash course’ on a variety of natural, climate-smart building methods. You will also co-build a cob oven in this course and leave with the knowledge to go home and build your own. Your participation will also help to grow our newly-founded organization and will allow us to continue our facilitator training development work so that we can begin to extend our reach into more communities across the Carolinas.

Come early and join us for a special Saturday Night Barn Jam (9/16) from 6-10pm as we dance and party with the Yum Yum Boys! A portion of the proceeds will support RDBC! Find more information here

In this hands-on course, you will learn the basics of:

  • cob/earthen construction methods

  • hempcrete insulation

  • straw-clay insulation

  • clay-hemp plaster

  • insulation vs. thermal mass ; thermal dynamics

  • soil identification and modification techniques

  • learn how to build a 22” cob oven at home
